Why Do You Reject "Overly" Personal Questions? They Can’t Take Anything Away from You.
Some might argue that showing vulnerability is unsettling because it gives the other person power—a key, so to speak. Fair enough. But maybe, just maybe, that’s something you should work on: distancing yourself and letting go.
In coaching, you can’t avoid a question just because of what you think it might lead to.
If a question arises that could challenge a major part of previous discussions—or even redefine the core of multiple sessions—then it must be explored.
In coaching, as in any helping relationship, social codes, norms, and polite conventions should be irrelevant. (And here, I’m strictly referring to questioning.)
It’s the only way to truly dig deeper and get as close as possible to reality.
