Hear ye, hear ye, fellow multipotentialites! Multipotentiality meets astrology—are we doing the splits here?
Nah, it's Valentine's Day, so I’m just tweaking the phrasing. 😉
But let’s get serious: what impact does this have on your choices and projects?
Okay, fair warning: I just stumbled upon an article that, well… let’s say it slightly crumpled my neurons. I mentioned doing the splits, but maybe we should talk about scoring an own goal instead?
If you’ve been following me, you know I find multipotentiality to be a fascinating and real phenomenon—but also a bit blurry, with theoretical foundations that could use some solidifying.
Well, this time, we’ve crossed a new threshold. Picture this:
You’ve spent years defending a rational approach to multipotentiality, trying to give it theoretical legitimacy—a serious concept.
And then—BAM 💥!
An article comes along and tells you that your career path might be influenced by your birth chart. 🌙✨
Yep, you read that right.
Emily Wapnick, the originator of the modern multipotentialite concept, explains that since 2020, when Uranus met her natal Mercury in the 9th house (or something like that), her interest in astrology has blossomed.
The result? She now suggests looking to the stars to better understand your passions.
- Venus in Libra? You’re probably drawn to artistic careers.
- Saturn in Capricorn? You work like a maniac.
- Pluto making a move? …Bad karma incoming.
And now, the question that’s burning on my lips:
👉 Did multipotentiality just shoot itself in the foot?
Because originally, this was supposed to be a more rigorous approach than the usual self-help labels (highly sensitive people, HPEs, unicorns).
We’re talking about diverse interests, rapid learning, a rejection of routine—things that can be observed and argued.
So… adding astrology to the mix—doesn’t that just muddy the waters even more?
Multipotentiality is already tricky enough to define. Throwing in planetary alignments is like adding fog to an already blurry map, isn’t it?
If we want multipotentiality to be taken seriously, linking it to astrology might just push it into the "woo-woo" section.
If my rising sign says I’m destined to explore a thousand passions, does that mean my career strategy should be… checking my horoscope?
But hey, maybe I’m wrong.
Maybe this article is just offering a fun, lighthearted perspective—without claiming any absolute truth.
But if that’s the case, isn’t the line between multipotentiality and new-age mindset getting really thin?
And given that it’s already a challenge to get multipotentiality recognized in the social sciences, doesn’t this risk discrediting it entirely?
Personally, I’m involved in this topic, but I don’t label myself—so I’m not particularly shaken by it.
But I am curious.
👉 What do you think?
